Package systems

The package system follows a concept pioneered by KT Hydraulics in which all the ancillary equipment for the pump is incorporated on a single skid unit.

The ancillary package skid incorporates an API 614 lubrication system and an API 682 Plan 53B Seal Support System with Auto Top Up Unit all installed, cabled and piped onto one all encompassing ‘plug and play’ skid. These are primarily used for a pump skid within a very small footprint where there is not enough space to fit the Lube & Seal Systems,  particularly important where space is at a premium on platforms and FPSO vessels.

Lube and seal support system on single auxiliary package skid

The concept was originally born from necessity on an FPSO project; KT Hydraulics was contracted to supply both a pump lube system and a seal system for an FPSO and although the systems were ordered through different customers, our engineering team soon realised there was only one option – a single combined hydraulic system that would serve both applications yet fit within the strict dimensional constraints we had been given.

In addition to saving valuable space, the package option can also offer cost savings through reductions in the amount of pipework and wiring required plus common components such as bulky cooler units, gauge panels, junction boxes and even reservoirs can be shared.

The package is also easier for our clients from a project management standpoint, as it pulls everything under the control of one supplier simplifying both system design and project management. KT Hydraulics delivers a fully tested ‘plug and play’ auxiliary package skid which requires minimal installation work and so saves further cost by reducing the time required on site for installation and commissioning.

Rationalising the supply chain and designing-out cost are important for the majority of projects and our package system concept fits the bill perfectly.

The use of 3D design software has helped us take an increasingly proactive role in many projects and has been particularly important in the development of the package system concept as it helps in configuring the components and complex piping of two systems within the footprint of a single auxiliary skid. Being able to interface with design software from other component and system manufacturers also ensures accuracy of ‘fit’ well before the unit arrives on site so that installation becomes a simple ‘plug and play’ operation when the skid arrives on site.
