Chancellor of the Exchequer opens the doors on a British manufacturing success

Chancellor George Osborne tours the KTH factoryThe new purpose - built headquarters of Yorkshire based hydraulic systems manufacturer K T Hydraulics has now been officially opened by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon George Osborne MP.

Following a tour of the new facilities and a brief presentation on the company’s plans for the future, the Chancellor unveiled a commemorative plaque to declare the site officially open.

The Chancellor’s visit coincided with the latest custom designed hydraulic system being completed. The API 682 Plan 53B seal support system, one of 16 supplied on the same contract, which had a total order value in excess of £1.1m, had been designed and manufactured by KT Hydraulics for customers in Italy. The systems will ultimately be fitted to a range of pumps operating in the Qusahwira oilfield in Abu Dhabi where they will fulfil a variety of critical functions including high pressure water injection, (assisting oil extraction) as well as being used in pumping oil away from the wells along pipelines to the processing sites. The equipment is part of a current development by the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations which is expected to see an extra 30,000 barrels of oil produced per day from the Qusahwira field.

Chancellor George Osborne tours the new KTH factory“This is typical of the sort of contracts that are filling what is a very healthy order book”, explained KT Hydraulics’ managing director Richard Ellis. “Our systems are specified by the major global pump and seal manufacturers and go into operation in critical applications in any of the world’s oil and gas fields. We have systems operating everywhere from the Trans-Siberian pipeline to the vast oilfields of the Middle East and the latest discoveries of the Brazilian offshore industry.

It was with a great deal of pride that we were able to show the Chancellor a successful British company that is leading the way in terms of technology, exporting strongly and planning for continued growth, in stark contrast to the consistent ‘doom and gloom’ we see in the media.

Our new premises are now a true reflection of our business, our products, technology and expertise. The official opening event also allowed us to present our vision of the future to some of our key customers and demonstrate in the process how we hope KT Hydraulics will be a valuable technology partner for their own businesses.”
